See, I get it.
Writing an article that people actually want to read is hard. There are so many things you need to keep in mind before publishing, that it’s easy to skip a few steps and feel lost in the process.
To make sure no writer ever has to wonder if their article is *complete*, I created the ultimate checklist you can refer to before hitting the “Publish” button. Go through this, and feel free to bookmark this post so you can keep coming back to it later.
The Ultimate Article-Writing Checklist
Make sure to use a title, subtitle, and cover picture.
The title should tell the reader what to expect from the article.
The subtitle should establish your credibility or give the reader a reason to start reading your article.
The cover image should be consistent with the mood of the article (Brown/blue/black themed images for sad pieces. White and bright colors for uplifting stories. Red/pink for love, etc.)
The title picture should be high-res, duty-free (websites like Unsplash, Pexels, Pixabay, etc. provide beautiful duty-free images for free) in landscape mode.
Begin your article with a HOOK. Shorter sentences work better in the introduction.
Use section breaks to divide your story into different sections.
Leave lots of white space so the article is easy to read on a mobile device.
Use section headers and sub-headers (T1 and T2). Make these highly specific, so your article is skimmable. This makes it accessible to even the laziest reader, thus widening your audience base.
Use bold and Italics wherever you deem fit or want to draw the attention of the reader, but limit them to one in every 5 paragraphs. Remember, over-formatting is equivalent to not formatting at all.
Add actionable takeaways in ordered or unordered lists. This draws the reader’s attention to the most important/memorable part of your article.
Whenever you use quotes, make sure to include a link to the source of the quote.
